So, hey, the new cd is out.  We are working on getting clips of the tracks put up here, but until then feel free to order one without having heard it.  Or I suppose if you are feeling particularly un-adventurous you can hear a few mp3s on our myspace page (myspace.com/kevinsmithmusic).  In any case, we really hope you like it.  Please let us know what you think!  (Unless it’s bad, and then just keep it to yourself.)

The two cds below are from my previous bands.  Ridgely (1993-1998) was an acoustic duo-thingie with Eric Peters (see the links page).  Good times.  "Can you go to Hell for having too much fun?" was a recurring question during our travels.

I joined Forty Day Fast in 1998 after Eric and I parted musical company.  Forty Day Fast was a bunch of friends of mine and my brother Brian (again, see the links page).  It was a lot of fun too, just a little more rockin'.  We stopped playing in 2002 after I had a baby and several of us got real jobs.  If you call playing guitar at a church a real job.  Anyway, peruse and purchase if you like.  Or even if you don't like.  Keep in mind that we're not just selling them here because we have tons left.  No, really.

 The Only Thing

Limited reprint now available.

"Due to frequent requests over the past several years, Ridgely (Eric Peters and Kevin Smith) has reprinted a very limited amount of their popular album, The Only Thing. One of the original indie-acoustic Christian bands, Ridgely performed nationally on their own and toured with Caedmon's Call (1996) and Bebo Norman (1998), and shared the stage with Shane Barnard, Caleb Carruth, Ross King and Vigilantes of Love. Produced by Don McCollister (Caedmon's Call, Sister Hazel, Shawn Mullins, The Indigo Girls), The Only Thing is full of songs that touch the deeper places of everyday life and faith, utilizing the unique blend of guitar and vocal harmonies that earned the duo a nationwide grassroots following during their seven years together." -- IndependentBands.com

 FortyDayFast:

 This Is Only Temporary
 $10 including Shipping.

"This is an unbelievably wonderful album. Forty Day Fast, who hail
from Baton Rouge, have recorded an album that stands up to anything currently on American radio (and far surpasses 95% of that). This is equal parts acoustic/electric power-pop with amazing hooks, sophisticated arrangements, breathtaking Beach Boys-esque vocals, and thoughtful, mature lyrics. The songs (which range from intimate to driving) are insightful Christian explorations of subjects such as forgiveness ("Away Now"), sanctification ("Be Like You"), hero worship and the True Hero ("To Know You"), the hypocrisy of Christians ("Fast Forward"), lamentation over life's superficiality ("We Run"), and the quest for a Godly mate ("Part of Me", probably the best song on the disc). Joy, encouragement, insight are all here. Brent Milligan's production (The Elms, Seven Day Jesus, Margaret Becker, Geoff Moore and the Distance, Considering Lily) is superb, and an added plus is the presence of Kevin Smith, formerly of Ridgely. Did I mention his dulcimer, or Rick Naqvi's electric sitar? Can you tell I like this CD? I'm betting most of you will, too." -- GrassRootsMusic.com
